NFL: Herrington overcomes rough childhood

​DUNLAP — Almost everyone in life has what can be referred to as a turning point. One of those moments, when depending upon the decision you make or just how events work out, affects the direction your life takes. Harvie Herrington had one of those moments when he was a sophomore college football player and it pointed the future NFL player in the right direction. Herrington was at Concord High School Friday morning sharing his message about his life-changing moment with the student body.

Daniela Estrada said, “He got me to believe I can do things, even if my parents tell me I can’t. I am not my parents. I am my own person and want to have a better life than they do. My future is my own.”

'Have a dream' Former NFL player Harvie Herrington talks with Concord seniors

DUNLAP — Former NFL player and motivational speaker Harvie Herrington told students at Concord High School on Friday that knowing their dream, their why and their purpose are the key ingredients to becoming a great leader. In four different sessions, Herrington spoke to the whole student body sharing his story of perseverance while encouraging the students to have a dream and explaining the purpose and power of having one. His final speech of the day was to the seniors. He kicked his speech off by asking if any of them know what career they want to pursue after high school; only a couple dozen raised their hands.

Sophmore Alec Eash said, “It’s important to fight for your dreams because they’re yours, not anyone else’s and that’s what ​resonated with me.”

Hold onto your dreams,' former pro football player tells Riverdale students

PORT BYRON — Giving two presentations at Riverdale Middle School last week, motivational speaker Harvie Herrington, a former pro football player, told students to discover their personalities and use them to their advantage, and to become leaders and team players.

Eighth-grade football player Caleb Jennings, Port Byron, said the presentations showed him the importance of developing leadership skills. “We also need to respect our peers,” added Brenden Jellis, Cordova.
